DreamSteerer: Enhancing Source Image Conditioned Editability using Personalized Diffusion Models
Recent text-to-image (T2I) personalization methods have shown great premise in teaching a diffusion model user-specified concepts given a few images for reusing the acquired concepts in a novel context. With massive efforts being dedicated to personalized generation, a promising extension is personalized editing, namely to edit an image using personalized concepts, which can provide more precise guidance signal than traditional textual guidance. To address this, one straightforward solution is to incorporate a personalized diffusion model with a text-driven editing framework. However, such solution often shows unsatisfactory editability on the source image. To address this, we propose DreamSteerer, a plug-in method for augmenting existing T2I personalization methods. Specifically, we enhance the source image conditioned editability of a personalized diffusion model via a novel Editability Driven Score Distillation (EDSD) objective. Moreover, we identify a mode trapping issue with EDSD, and propose a mode shifting regularization with spatial feature guided sampling to avoid such issue. We further employ two key modifications on the Delta Denoising Score framework that enable high-fidelity local editing with personalized concepts. Extensive experiments validate that DreamSteerer can significantly improve the editability of several T2I personalization baselines while being computationally efficient.

Exquisite demand exists for customizing the pretrained large text-to-image model, $e.g.$ Stable Diffusion, to generate innovative concepts, such as the users themselves. However, the newly-added concept from previous customization methods often shows weaker combination abilities than the original ones even given several images during training. We thus propose a new personalization method that allows for the seamless integration of a unique individual into the pre-trained diffusion model using just $one\ facial\ photograph$ and only $1024\ learnable\ parameters$ under $3\ minutes$. So we can effortlessly generate stunning images of this person in any pose or position, interacting with anyone and doing anything imaginable from text prompts. To achieve this, we first analyze and build a well-defined celeb basis from the embedding space of the pre-trained large text encoder. Then, given one facial photo as the target identity, we generate its own embedding by optimizing the weight of this basis and locking all other parameters. Empowered by the proposed celeb basis, the new identity in our customized model showcases a better concept combination ability than previous personalization methods. Besides, our model can also learn several new identities at once and interact with each other where the previous customization model fails to. Project page is at: http://celeb-basis.github.io.
Is This Loss Informative? Faster Text-to-Image Customization by Tracking Objective Dynamics
Text-to-image generation models represent the next step of evolution in image synthesis, offering a natural way to achieve flexible yet fine-grained control over the result. One emerging area of research is the fast adaptation of large text-to-image models to smaller datasets or new visual concepts. However, many efficient methods of adaptation have a long training time, which limits their practical applications, slows down experiments, and spends excessive GPU resources. In this work, we study the training dynamics of popular text-to-image personalization methods (such as Textual Inversion or DreamBooth), aiming to speed them up.We observe that most concepts are learned at early stages and do not improve in quality later, but standard training convergence metrics fail to indicate that.Instead, we propose a simple drop-in early stopping criterion that only requires computing the regular training objective on a fixed set of inputs for all training iterations. Our experiments on Stable Diffusion for 48 different concepts and three personalization methods demonstrate the competitive performance of our approach, which makes adaptation up to 8 times faster with no significant drops in quality.

When Personalization Meets Reality: A Multi-Faceted Analysis of Personalized Preference Learning
Dong, Yijiang River, Hu, Tiancheng, Liu, Yinhong, รstรผn, Ahmet, Collier, Nigel
While Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) is widely used to align Large Language Models (LLMs) with human preferences, it typically assumes homogeneous preferences across users, overlooking diverse human values and minority viewpoints. Although personalized preference learning addresses this by tailoring separate preferences for individual users, the field lacks standardized methods to assess its effectiveness. We present a multi-faceted evaluation framework that measures not only performance but also fairness, unintended effects, and adaptability across varying levels of preference divergence. Through extensive experiments comparing eight personalization methods across three preference datasets, we demonstrate that performance differences between methods could reach 36% when users strongly disagree, and personalization can introduce up to 20% safety misalignment. These findings highlight the critical need for holistic evaluation approaches to advance the development of more effective and inclusive preference learning systems.

Holistic Evaluation Metrics: Use Case Sensitive Evaluation Metrics for Federated Learning
Li, Yanli, Ibrahim, Jehad, Chen, Huaming, Yuan, Dong, Choo, Kim-Kwang Raymond
A large number of federated learning (FL) algorithms have been proposed for different applications and from varying perspectives. However, the evaluation of such approaches often relies on a single metric (e.g., accuracy). Such a practice fails to account for the unique demands and diverse requirements of different use cases. Thus, how to comprehensively evaluate an FL algorithm and determine the most suitable candidate for a designated use case remains an open question. To mitigate this research gap, we introduce the Holistic Evaluation Metrics (HEM) for FL in this work. Specifically, we collectively focus on three primary use cases, which are Internet of Things (IoT), smart devices, and institutions. The evaluation metric encompasses various aspects including accuracy, convergence, computational efficiency, fairness, and personalization. We then assign a respective importance vector for each use case, reflecting their distinct performance requirements and priorities. The HEM index is finally generated by integrating these metric components with their respective importance vectors. Through evaluating different FL algorithms in these three prevalent use cases, our experimental results demonstrate that HEM can effectively assess and identify the FL algorithms best suited to particular scenarios. We anticipate this work sheds light on the evaluation process for pragmatic FL algorithms in real-world applications.
MagiCapture: High-Resolution Multi-Concept Portrait Customization
Hyung, Junha, Shin, Jaeyo, Choo, Jaegul
Large-scale text-to-image models including Stable Diffusion are capable of generating high-fidelity photorealistic portrait images. There is an active research area dedicated to personalizing these models, aiming to synthesize specific subjects or styles using provided sets of reference images. However, despite the plausible results from these personalization methods, they tend to produce images that often fall short of realism and are not yet on a commercially viable level. This is particularly noticeable in portrait image generation, where any unnatural artifact in human faces is easily discernible due to our inherent human bias. To address this, we introduce MagiCapture, a personalization method for integrating subject and style concepts to generate high-resolution portrait images using just a few subject and style references. For instance, given a handful of random selfies, our fine-tuned model can generate high-quality portrait images in specific styles, such as passport or profile photos. The main challenge with this task is the absence of ground truth for the composed concepts, leading to a reduction in the quality of the final output and an identity shift of the source subject. To address these issues, we present a novel Attention Refocusing loss coupled with auxiliary priors, both of which facilitate robust learning within this weakly supervised learning setting. Our pipeline also includes additional post-processing steps to ensure the creation of highly realistic outputs. MagiCapture outperforms other baselines in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations and can also be generalized to other non-human objects.
